Does getting a visible tattoo really affect your ability to get a job?
In todays society, alot of people have tattoos.
If i get a tattoo on my wrist, or arm, will it really affect me being able to get a decent job.
My mum says that some companys wont even hire people with tattoos.
I’d like to work in the fashion industry, for a magazine or maybe as a photographer when i’m older, will i be denied jobs if i have a tattoo on my wrist.
Im getting a memorial tattoo for my passed brother.
i was considering getting it in the middle of my back, but i still like the idea of my wrist,
it would only be his name and his DOB to DOD (date of death) and it would be small, and easy to cover with a watch
The company I worked for would not allow us to hire people with visible tattoos and facial piercings as it tended to upset the older customers and by older I mean anyone over 30. The younger set seems to still like doing this as they feel its their right and so be it. The businesses also have the right to not hire these people. In the professional world its even harder to get a good job with exposed tattoos as they see it as unprofessional and immature. The fashion industry is a bit different, a photographer might get away with it as it may be considered artistic but a journalist wouldn’t (we’re back to that professionalism thing). You would have to be amazingly outstanding in your field to get away with exposed tattoos. I hired plenty of people with exposed tattoos when I hired I looked mostly at their skills and trainability level but in the interview I told them they would have to wear long sleeved or high collars to cover the tatt at work regardless of the temp. Some stayed and others objected, I do know that a couple of the guys I didn’t hire did get jobs as general labor but that is their decision. I’m really very sorry to hear about your brother and I’d bet he’d want the best for you too so listen to your mom. If you do get the tattoo put it in some place that won’t show to the general public, it is for your memorial.
