Tattoo behind the ear or on the foot?
I am interested in getting my first tattoo and can’t decide whether it would be better to go for it on my foot (the outside of my foot, not near the toes or anything) or behind the ear. Who has either of these? Has it faded? How much did it hurt? Would you recommend it?
I have a tattoo in both places, but my foot tattoo covers the entire top of my foot.
I have nine tattoos (foot, arms, legs, back, chest, behind the ear), and the foot tattoo hurt more than any of them. The foot tattoo is the only one I actually teared up while receiving (and trust me, the chest kills!). I think the thing about the foot is that the skin is really thin and it’s just a very bony area. My foot tattoo faded some but I believe that was because the first time it was done it wasn’t very “deep” (the artist was light-handed, and was also probably trying to save me some pain). I had it touched up one year later and haven’t had to since (and it’s been two years).
Now, you will probably think I’m exaggerating, but the tattoo behind my ear did not hurt at all. Seriously. My tattoo artist said there aren’t a lot of nerves in that area. However I have heard some people say their tattoo there hurt. But mine didn’t at all; it actually felt good and I am planning on getting one behind the other ear. The tattoo did fade but this was a fluke; it had something to do with the ink. I had it touched up a few months later and the artist used a different brand of ink and it hasn’t faded at all.
I would recommend either tattoo. But since this is your first tattoo, I would go with the one behind the ear if I were you. Less painful (most likely), and both easy to hide and easy to show off. It’s an interesting location for a tattoo as well.
