Can I Cover A Brand New Tattoo with cotton gauze?
I am getting a tattoo on Friday, I have to wear a dress for graduation on Saturday. The tattoo is going on my ribs, and the dress is a bit form fitted around my ribs. To prevent rubbing I wanted to put a thin piece of gauze over the tattoo. I will be in the dress for probably about 12 hours. Is this ok? Or should I reschedule my tattoo??
Definately reschedual your tattoo. People will tell you all different kinds of information about how long and how much your tattoo will ooze. truth is, it varies for every person and for every part of your body. so even if people with tattooed ribs tell you it’s ok, you can’t be sure. on average, tattoos will leak body fluids and ink out of the skin for 2 days. during these two days, its important that you can clean your tattoo every couple hours and apply healing ointment as well. but most importantly, your tattoo needs to breath! after you get it done it will stay wrapped for two hours but you cant wrap it back up after this. your tattoo oozes because it has not completely formed scabs yet. if you apply ointment and wrap it, the scabs that are begining to form will soak up the ointment and slide off. the ones that havent formed yet wont be able to. you can loose alot of ink this way and your tattoo will look awful when it heals. obviously, you have to reschedual. its just much safer for both your tattoo and your dress.. congrats on graduating by the way!
