I read a couple of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels and enjoyed them, so I decided to go back to his first solo show and read them in order. "Killing Floor" was a fun read. Child writes shorter sentences than me, but that is his style and it works for him. The character of Jack Reacher, an ex-military strays is an interesting hero. I like him.
You could quibble of the novel and say, "this would never happen" or "random" and so on, but why? I do not read novels action like this to bring me up to reality. The same way I did not watch action movies for realism. Make Fun escapism. I like that you have a good tough-guy hero in an action have fairy tale. The story grabs you from the beginning and is interesting all the way through.
One thing I really like the character Jack Reacher, is that yes, it is hard, and has no problem going on physically or with weapons, but he is also intelligent and attentive. He thinks, and not just use his fists and guns. Child adds elements of tension, romance and action, and he mixed well.
The story is quite easy with good guys and bad guys. But child adds twists and turns and keeps them alive. It is a good first book in the series, and I'm glad I went back and began again. Now I will continue to book two.
If you want some good escapist action suits Lee Child's Jack Reacher series the bill. If You want to start at the beginning, take a copy of "Killing Floor", and read it for fun.
