Help with a Hebrew tattoo translation?
I want to to get the tattoo on my back in Hebrew, translated: "If I am not for myself, who will be for myself." I have the translation to what I believe is right, אם אין אני לי לי מי but I did not have the tattoo in the style of Victoria Beckham, and wonder how I would turn the sentence so that it reads my back. Must I just turn it on its side, and have it written down my spine? And what is the difference between block and Hebrew script, and if someone can me to explain what I have, and what the other is, it would be very helpful. Thank you so much!
אם אין אני לי מי לי is the correct translation. This set is made of Ethics of the Fathers 1:14. Hebrew is read from right to left, so if you wanted it written vertically, you would with the "א" at the extreme right and start to work your way to the left. The font used above is the script block. There are different types of Hebrew script. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cursive_Hebrew # Contemporary_Forms for the most common and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rashi_script form for another popular (if outdated). Victoria's tattoo written in ordinary script block, and rotated by 90 degrees. To read them, you must have your Head tilt to the left. I would recommend * not * doing it so, and instead write it vertically like Chinese: א ם א י ן etc. .. ==== Yes, it would it may look strange, but the way Beckham has still embarrassing.
